Carotid Duplex Scan

Carotid duplex scan is a non-invasive ultrasound procedure used to assess blood flow through the carotid arteries in the neck and/or the branches of the carotid artery. It helps visualize the arteries, detect blockages or narrowing (stenosis) and measure blood flow velocity. It is usually a non-invasive, safe, painless and harmless procedure.

It is indicated for:

  • Stroke prevention:  Helps to identify individuals at risk of stroke due to carotid artery disease.
  • Assessment of carotid artery disease:   Helps diagnose and monitor the severity of carotid artery disease.
  • Evaluation of symptoms:  Can help determine the cause of symptoms like dizziness, vision changes or weakness.
